Sheet prices, cost per shirt, the border fees nobody quotes you, and how to build a margin that survives a busy season.

DTF pricing in Canada is quoted in about four different units — per square inch, per linear foot, per sheet, per print — which makes comparison shopping deliberately hard. Here is the whole thing in one place, in Canadian dollars, with the math shown.

What a gang sheet costs

Our unit is a 22" × 12" sheet. Price drops automatically with the number of sheets in the order — no codes, no account tier required:

Sheets in orderPrice per sheetEffective per sq in
1–4$8.25$0.031
5–24$7.95$0.030
25–49$7.65$0.029
50–99$7.45$0.028
100–199$7.25$0.027
200+$6.95$0.026

Shipping is free over $149. Everything is printed in Regina, Saskatchewan, so there is no duty, no brokerage and no exchange-rate markup layered on top.

Cost per shirt, worked out

A 22" × 12" sheet holds roughly six 10" × 4" left-chest prints, or two 11" × 11" full-front prints, with sensible spacing.

Print sizePrints per sheetCost each at $8.25Cost each at $6.95
3" × 3" (sleeve / pocket)~24$0.34$0.25
10" × 4" (left chest strip)~6$1.38$1.00
11" × 11" (full front)~2$4.13$3.00
11" × 16" (oversized front)~1$8.25$6.95

Gang your sheets

The single biggest lever on cost per print is how tightly you nest designs. Empty film is the most expensive thing on the sheet — our builder shows the wasted space as you arrange.

The hidden cost of ordering from the US

A US supplier quoting USD $5.50 a sheet looks cheaper than CAD $8.25 until the invoice lands. Add the exchange rate, then courier brokerage on a commercial import, then GST/HST collected at the border, then three to five extra transit days and a customs hold you cannot predict when a customer is waiting.

Run your last US order through that math before you compare sheet prices. Most Canadian shops find the landed cost is within pennies — and the domestic order arrives a week sooner.

How to price your own jobs

  1. Transfer cost: take the per-print number from the table above.
  2. Blank cost: add your garment cost, including the size upcharge on 2XL and up.
  3. Press labour: budget 45 seconds per garment at your shop rate — usually $0.30–$0.60.
  4. Overhead and waste: add 10% for misprints, reheats and the occasional reprint.
  5. Margin: most Canadian shops mark the total up 2.5× to 3× on small runs and 2× on volume.

A full-front print on a $7 tee works out to roughly $11.60 landed at 25 sheets; at a 2.5× markup that is a $29 retail shirt with a healthy margin on a one-off order.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a DTF transfer cost in Canada?

A 22" × 12" gang sheet starts at $8.25 and drops to $6.95 at 200 sheets. Depending on print size that works out to roughly $0.25 for a sleeve print, $1.00–$1.38 for a left chest and $3.00–$4.13 for a full front.

Is there a minimum order for DTF transfers?

Not with us. Order a single sheet or several hundred; the price per sheet simply improves as the order grows.

Why are US DTF prices lower?

They usually aren't once the order lands. Add the exchange rate, courier brokerage on a commercial import and border tax, and the landed cost typically matches or beats a Canadian-printed sheet — plus you wait several extra days.

How should I price DTF shirts for customers?

Add the transfer cost, the blank, about 45 seconds of press labour and 10% for waste, then apply a 2.5×–3× markup on small runs or 2× on volume work.
